Our background is horticulture. We have owned and operated a
commercial wholesale plant nursery for the last 25 years. We mainly
grew Herbs, Lavenders and Australian Bush Tucker plants for retail
garden centres and nurseries. That is how we came in contact with
capers.
We set up a trial bed of caper plants grown from seed. This enabled
us learn how to best grow caper plants and to discover which bushes
were the most productive.
We have experimented in different ways of propagating capers.
Growing from seeds can be carried out with high rate of success.
However, caper plants, grown from seeds do produce plants with
markedly different growth habits, different colour stems and more
importantly, different volume of harvest of capers.
So we have learned how to clone or vegetative propagate a ‘good’ caper
bush.
We have registered the ‘Eureka’ Caper with the Australian Plant
Breeders Rights office.
Present stocks of
this “Eureka’ Caper Plant have sold out and new stocks should be
available by about March 2009.
